    Default dslr not focusing

Hi, I just both an adaptor ring and a t-ring for my Sony alpha dslr to use on my nextar 130 slt.
I tried all possible combinations adapting the camera to the telescope and cannot focus... am I doing something wrong or missing something?
When you buy this stuff they don’t mention any tricks... is suppose to be very straight forward
Removed lens from camera and installed ring adaptor with t-ring attached to it. Removed eye piece from telescope and inserted the t-ring adaptor in place of it… also tried with eye piece inside t ring.
Please somebody tell me I didn’t waste $60.00 in does two pieces.

Not familiar with your scope but some Newtonians do have a problem with reaching focus.I suspect it is more the inward focus than the outward draw on the fucus tube , ie. camera plane has to get closer to the secondry mirror. Some focusers on some newtonians can be swopped out for a Low Profile Focuser , not sure if this is so with the 130 slt.

Looking at the scope ( 130 slt ) online it looks very light , so another problem that you may encounter could be an issue with balancing the scope , easy fix though by attaching some weight to the rear of the scope to balance it out.

Sorry I could not be of more help to you.

am with Pete on that one , i was looking at your scope on line and very sure your focus is lower. that could be a problem, you could always buy a low profile focuser, but then again that would cost more..

when your camera is pluged in what type of adapter is on the t-ring a long tube one or a very short adapter.
if its a long tube one about 2 inches long when you have the camera on it do you see the secondary mirror? or just blur??

Hello everyone. I stumbled across this forum while searching for a solution to the same problem as bluemoose.

I also have a Celestron Nextar 130 SLT and I can't get my Lumix G2 to focus. My mount adapters are: Micro 4/3 to Canon EOS lens adapter, Canon EOS T-ring and Celestron 1.25 inch universal camera T adapter. All attached, they are about 3 inches long.

I am seeing the secondary mirror when I point the scope to a street light (about a mile away).

I'm pretty sure the T ring has to be a low profile one to get the camera close enough to focus- other folks on here have had the same problem

    Thanks jenniferchristine.

I did some experimenting last night and got the camera to focus but I had to remove the visual back and put the camera body flat to the focuser. So essentially all of the adapters I bought are a waste.

I will have to see if I can modify the Micro 4/3 lens adapter to fit to the focuser.

    Hello all,

I am having the same problem with my Celestron Astromaster 130 EQ MD and my Canon 40D. I have the necessary parts and i still get no focus. I've tried with Live View and the Canon EOS Utility software for remote shooting and still nada. Looking forward to a solution to this disappointment.

    Thanks,

    Phil.

Hi, does anyone here have any experience using the celestron universal 1.25 t-adpater? That one looks shorter than other t-adapters that i saw. I have a Canon XS and would like to attach it to an astromaster 114eq with a "regular-sized"(?) t-ring. would i experience these same focusing issues?

doesn't matter what adapter you use with an slr, you will NEVER get a stock slt 130 to focus. (as you can tell, you might be able to get it just on the edge of focusing if you have it all the way in, and then hold the camera body tight against it) But you also then have the problem of how much focuser tube is in the optical path.

Your options are either push the primary mirror forward (relatively easy), or find a new low profile focuser. (tried, haven't found any that don't cost more than the scope itself)
