    Default CPC-1100 on a wedge

Hi. One of our club members was running the C11 last night. Said he picked an object that was below the horizon and the C11 tried to slew to it. Now the C11 is on a wedge. As I recall, last summer I adjusted the minimum slew limit to -47 (43 - 90) so I could get to objects below zero declination. Question. Is there a way to prevent displaying/slewing of objects below our actual horizon, on a C11 with a wedge?

Yes, under the "Scope Setup" menu, you have the option to adjust both filter limits and slew limits. The filter limits tell the computer which objects it should consider for slewing. The slew limits are pretty self-explanatory. If the filter limits are broader than the slew limits, that's when you run into problems with the scope telling you it wants to slew to an undesirable position.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the reply. So if my slew limits are min=-47 (C11 on a wedge at a latitude 43) max=90, what should I set the filter limits to?

A general rule is to not bother observing anything that is 5° (some folks use 10°) or less above the horizon. So, in that case, I'd set it to -42 to -37.

    [I'd set it to -42 to -37.]. Filter max = 90, min = -42 or -37?
