    Default Good Experience with Celestron

I got my EQ 130 in November 2014. I live in the city and it has been my backyard telescope for the Moon, planets, Orion Nebula, the Steam from the Teakettle, and just a couple of weeks ago, the Andromeda Galaxy. I also carted it out to our astronomy club viewing station 50 miles outside of town. For all of that, I have not used it 100 times in four years. The last time out, the rocker switch on the finder scope broke. It simply failed. I contacted Celestron and the replacement arrived today -- without an invoice. I have to take of my hat and say thanks

    Hi Mike,

Good to hear about the positive experience. I saw your thread and thought that I would share my last experience with Celestron also.

A few months back, I removed my RA gearbox cover on my Advanced VX Mount to re-lube the gears. The mount is almost a year old. The bottom half of the cover is very difficult to remove and has to be flexed a bit to get off the mount. I had to go into in several time messing with the gear mesh clearance and ended up breaking the bottom piece in half.
I emailed Celestron support to inquire about a replacement part in case I ever decide to sell it and definitely expected to pay for it since it was my fault. They asked for the purchase receipt and a photo of the piece. I sent it to them and the mailed a new one back to me without charge. I was impressed. They never asked how it got broken which possibly could have voided my warranty. Excellent experience!

    Thanks,
    Jim
