Default What eye pieces should be my first upgrade? NexStar 102GT

Just started using my new NexStar 102GT and I am already seeing the benifit of some nicer eye pieces.
I am mainly intersted at this point in looking at the planets with as much detail as possible.

I just looked at the scope and saw it came with 5 eyepieces (which is rather unusual) or maybe B&H (the site I read to get some info) just tossed them in...so to be honest the 4, 8, 12.5, 20 and 25 mm eyepieces are all that you should need for then next 6 to 12 months...magnification range is from 40x to 125x then a big jump up with the 4 to 250x which in my mind would not be very usable in your scope on even a night with very good seeing...

At almost f/10 your scope is quite easy on eyepieces which means you can get good views without buying high priced eyepieces...(a very good thing) ...so to be honest if you want to buy something right now get a 2x barlow and use it with your 12.5 mm eyepiece to give you 160x which should work fne on planets..plus the 12.5 will be much easier to view from then either the 4 or 8 mm

BTW I own a f/6 100 mm Orion Refractor and I have not been able to push shove or drag it up over 100x even on good nights which is fine with me because I am not a lunatic (lunar observer) and use the scope mostly on DSO's especially open clusters ..On the moon even at f/9 point something the false color should not be too bad and most likely almost eliminated with a minus violet filter

Think about buying or making an observation chair...google LYBAR chair (and do not laugh ) simple, easy to make and super cheap PLUS it works and is rock solid ...
