    Default C90 $150 on Amazon

The Celestron C-90s are going for $150 on Amazon with free prime shipping. It comes with a nylon bag, tripod (cheapo from what I hear) and a single 1.25" eyepiece. Is this a good deal? I plan on using it more for terrestrial than astro viewing. Is this a good deal?

Hello MLaferriere. Looks like a pretty good deal, especially when you consider the free shipping. Also, if you are going to use it primarily for terrestrial use, it comes with an erect image diagonal which should work out great for you. I can tell you that the images should be tack sharp, as when I first got back into astronomy back in 2009, the first scope that I bought was a similar SkyWatcher version of this. I later changed out the erect image diagonal for a 90 degree diagonal for astronomy use, and for a small aperture, these scopes really deliver the goods. I hope this helps a little, and best wishes on your telescope decision.

For terrestrial use, a C-90 would be great. In fact, when I get another scope, I plan on retiring my old-old C-90 to terrestrial use.

Hi Mike. I have an old C90 and I have only used it on the moon but it is great for that. One of the members posted a picture of Saturn a while back that was taken with his C90. It was one of the better Saturn pictures that I have seen on here. Glad to see you posting.

I got a chance to use a spotting scope at the Quabbin Reservoir in Massachusetts over the weekend and was impressed with the clarity and magnification it gave over my 70-300mm Canon. A birdwatcher pointed out a bald eagle on the other side of the water and it almost filled the eyepiece in her Bushnell scope. She had a Canon 60d with a 400mm F5.6 L lens and I think I may have gotten more responses from her if I had shown interest in the bird instead of the glass. I typed in spotting scope on Amazon and noticed the C90. Figured the Quabbin might be a good place to put it to use. I was able to get a 'shot' of the bird with my 300mm but didn't have time to tweak any settings before it took of. Mt Monadnock and Hartford are both visible (each around 40 miles distant) from the tower on Quabbin hill. Too bad the place closes at dark, figured it would make a good location for a star party.

Hello Bill. Not sure why I got out of things for a while. I skip out for a few months and come back and Celestron has a new mount, prices have dropped on some things. And I missed M-42 for most of the season... Its good to be back. Lots of new faces posting!

Well, it is just good that you are back. Nice photograph of the Eagle. You can zoom way in on the image and still have a sharp image.
