Default Celestron xlt 102 focuser upgrade

Back in January of 2013 I posted a thread in the Refractor Telescope forum concerning my difficulty in focusing the Celestron xlt 102 especially when using a 10 mm eyepiece. I was experiencing back lash and a general inability to achieve a well focused image. I even replaced the lubricant with a less viscose one which helped but still the focusing was less than ideal.

Just recently I purchased a GSO Crayford style focuser from Agena AstroProducts. Removing the old focuser and installing this new one took less than 15 minutes. I also required a 2" eyepiece extension to achieve the proper focusing range.

The results are outstanding. I am able to easily achieve optimal focus with the 10 mm eyepiece. No back lash and no sloppiness. The micro adjustment works beautifully. With a 6 mm eyepiece I need to allow vibrations to dampen out after initial focusing and then tweak the focuser once or twice to achieve optimal. This focuser is a pleasure to use.

I think this focuser modification has added significant viewing capability to the scope. I highly recommend this upgrade.

Hope info helps others owners of this scope series.

Thanks for the review. I have often wondered about these focusers as I too sometimes suffer from not being able to achieve a perfect focus with a 130 SLT.

What is the diameter of the adapter? I am looking at upgrading the focuser as well.

I believe the website has a compatibility listing that tells which diameter to buy for your scope.

I put one of these focusers on my 120 XLT and agree it is a great modification. I love everything about it, especially no more marring of my eyepieces.
