    Smile My C8-NGT arrived today

My new telescope arrived today and I am very happy with it! I had mentioned in another post earlier this week that I had found a demo model available on Highpoint Scientific for about 20% less than new cost, and I didn't want to pass it up.

Other than a couple scratches along the dovetail assembly, it looks like new. In addition, there were a couple extras in the box that I hadn't expected. It comes with a basic 20mm eyepiece, but there was an additional 20mm one as well...a meade super plossl that looks to be about the same quality, maybe a little better than the original. There was also a collimating eyepiece and two different T-Adapters in there as well.

With the help of my wife and brother-in-law, we got it all assembled. I do have to say it's much larger and more impressive when you finally get to see it instead of looking at pictures of it. There's definitely no "grab and go" with this telescope but that isn't what I bought it for. At the same time though, it does break down into manageable size components and it will fit in my car so packing it up for a road trip to dark sky areas will not be difficult if we decide to do that.

What I haven't done yet is check the balance, check the mirror alignment, or check out the electrical system yet. I did spend some time going through the manual tonight so finishing up those remaining steps should be easy and it will be ready for first light soon enough.

I can't really say if it's the new telescope curse or not because after all, I live in Nebraska and it is springtime. We're under a tornado watch tonight and surrounded by severe storms so there wasn't any chance of getting out there to try it out. The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend with clear skies saturday evening. I can't wait!

    Vince

A tornado watch ???? Most of us only get a week of cloudy skies followed by a week of Rain after our new scopes arrives....

Congratulations on the new rig...and head for the basement if needed...
