Default Upgrading Mounts for Nexstar 6se

I have read enough to realize that the al-azimuth mount that my Nexstar 6se came with is not adequate for quality astrophotography. My question is whether the scope can be mounted to a mount such as the Celestron CG-5 computerized mount? This seems to be an affordable solution if I want to start taking good photos. Any thoughts?

Hi Ewcbyrd ...Welcome aboard the forums ...You can mount anything on anything if you are willing to go through a little engineering ...Is there a way to attach a dovetail rail to your scope ? If so there you go ...I have a cg5 mount and it has a regular dovetail rail for mounting a vixen style rail ...

Not sure if someone has answered this yet or not, but I guess for future reference I'll post. The 6SE and 8SE have a dovetail on them already. Also Celestron has a wedge available for Equatorial mounting. The wedge is about $200 while the CG5 mount seems to run in the $700-$800 price range.

    Default Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the help. I have purchased a CG-5 Computerized Mount that the OTA attached to perfectly. Now, if I could just get a clear night to give it a shot.

You already got you answer the 6 Se already has a dovetail and vcan be mounted on ANY mount that uses a standard Vixen Dovetail...

BUT I sure would mess around with doing some short exposure imaging ... with a bone stock 6 Se before I even considered buying a new mount...

a quick search brought up this 60 SECOND exposures using a bone stock non guided 8SE
