    Default Upgrading my mount 8SE

As the header says, I'm thinking of upgrading my mount. Thing is, I'm totally ignorant in whats available and if it is worth it. I don't want to go overboard but would like to look into it.

    Thanks

    Just curious mostly.

But it would be for stability and accuracy, maybe for some AP as well. I actually built an adjustable wedge for it but have not used it yet since i have received 2 bad controllers from celestron lately. Which reminds me ,i have to call them today. Questions is though, is it worth it to upgrade to the basic next step with the 8SE.

The 8SE's OTA is a good one. Something like an AVX would be a good mount for it.

    Is that a worm gear??

I have been thinking of setting the miter gears a little tighter(alt), they seem uncommonly loose...LOTS of backlash. Not too much to overload these motor mind you but I took the cover off and with a small magnifying glass i can see the play. Also the grease they use could be better.

Gear hobbing is a fine art and not many companies really give you a decent job of it - you get what you pay for and often people are disappointed with the result.
The new decent mounts coming out are belt driven and have no backlash - and there are kits for some of the older ones - do some reasearch on what you really want - your requirements are a bit vague -
    BUDGET
    Expected use
ability to move the stuff about
    Observatory?
    needed load capacity.
Will you be attaching a load of gear to the OTA or just upping the thing to a visual with a more solid mount.

I'd suggest at least HEQ5 or equivalent - and that means a learning curve - a big one.
The AVX will carry a touch more - the EQ6 a bit more again
    NEQ6 Pro Mount.
