Question Gain and exposure settings for a ZWO ASI178-MM camera

I keep racking my brain. I have been taking exposures using this camera and LRGB filters for a couple of months. I just recently figured out that each filter has it's own focus point, but that was sure to happen. The problem I and having now is I have a new Alstar H-Alpha filter. The other night I took 10, 900 second exposures of M81 and M82 using this camera and filter, using a gain setting of 150. When I use DSS to stack them, I loose any detail I see in the separate images. The stars line up, but the highlights I captured disappear. I think I may have a gain setting issue. Certainly if I can get the amp glow out of my images without loosing the information, life would be good. I have scoured the internet and found a few numbers, but none of those seem to work. Any input would surely be welcome

when you say highlights disappear, do you mean they are saturated ?, it's important not to over expose your target as it can lead to almost a irreversible loss even with good processing.

also what stacking parameters are you using in deepsky stakker ? average, sigma kapp ectt ?

can you upload a dropbox of your raw data

I have 8, Ha filter exposures that when I open using Fits Liberator I can see there is some pretty good detail.

For DSS, I have tried all the settings to see if it made a difference. Everything just seemed to come up under exposed

That darn amp glow is killing you. Is that the cause of the upper left light source?

Are you taking flats and bias to cull some of the noise?

I think your exposure is fine. M82 is looking very nice. M81 is pretty good too. But that light source is flooding the whole image.

Yes, that's all Amp Glow. My Darks, Flats and Bias's do most of the noise and glow except for the very corners. I have nice detail but when I stack it, it just disappears. My ZWO ASI178MM is not cooled, and I know eventually I will upgrade the camera

yeah the top right also looks like amp glow as when you flick through the images the the dithering puts that glow exactly in one spot ? can you upload the dark files ?

you should be able to find a profile of your camera chip online to see the typical amp glow pattern for your cmos/ccs chip.

That's about the worst amp glow I have ever seen. The ones in the lower right and left look 'normal' the one in the upper right is out of control!

You sure that was not a star slightly out of frame?
