Default CCD to match Celestron CPC 1100 HD

I recently purchased a Celestron CPC 1100 HD (Edge Optics). I also built a pier and installed a Milburn Wedge. I have been haing a great time with the CPC, and would like to get into astrophotography. I have been trying my Nikon D5100 with the Celestron focal reducer as well as 'piggy-back' and it does a decent job. I know that moving up to a CCD would be the next step, but I am concerned about getting a CCD that would best fit my equipment. I would plan on taking pictures either through the focal reducer, or (someday) with the Hyperstar adaptor (F2). I know that pixel size is an important factor in selecting the CCD but I am not sure how to select the appropriate CCD. Most people start with a mono CCD, and use color wheels, but I would rather keep it simple. So I am more interested in a one shot color CCD. Any suggestions regarding a CCD that would work well with my current system?
    Thanks
    Roger

The ideal pixel size at f/2 with the Hyperstar setup is quite different from what you might want at f/11 or f/8. Here is a set of useful online calculators that can give insights to what these various options require:

    Useful Formulae

Cameras with small pixels (3 to 6 micron) over sample images when they are used at longer focal lengths. Pixels on monochrome sensors are often binned to best match the focal length. A camera with 4.5 micron pixels can be binned 2x2 for the equivalent of 9 micron pixels.

With a color sensor binning is more complicated because of the built-in array of Bayer filters. Some color sensors can only be used at their native resolution, and others (with progressive read out) can be binned 2x2 or 4x4. If you want a one-shot color camera to image from f/2 to f/11, you might consider one that allows color binning.

Thanks. I think I am going to concentrate on taking DSO pictures with my Nikon D5100 connected to the focal reducer for a while. Then I may buy the Hyperstar and try the Nikon with that. Sort of - getting my feet wet before I jump in the water. I will also do some wide field 'piggy-back' photography. Once I have enogh experience, I may then look into CCD camera.

    Thanks for your help,
    Roger
