    Default Celestron C10, and CG-5 mount problems.i

This may seem like a long explanation, but I want you to understand what’s going on. I bought this telescope back around 2009,off eBay where I lived there was no place to set it up, so I never really used it. Shortly after that I go cancer. Spent the next two to three years pretty much in bed. During this time, a friend wanted to know if I could set it up, so his Bible school class could look through it. Now I have set it up, just after I received it to make sure it all worked. Everything worked just fine.
Anyway, I decided to let him take it home, because he lived out side of town, and had a wide open back yard. He had it for about a week, said it worked great.

The next time I set it up, the controller would not work. It said it couldn’t connect to the mount. I played with it for A few weeks, but never got it to work again. I could every once in a while get the controller to move the mound, and all the motors worked. But the controller still had trouble connecting to the mount.

Finally I ordered a STARSense from HighPoint, and the controller worked just fine. Now I even tried to flash the original controller, it still no connection.
order a new motor board, and replaced it. The original controller still would not work, finally ordered a new controller from HighPoint, because I wanted to sell this scope, and get a new one. The new controller did not work same problem, it couldn’t connect to the mount. I even have a SkyFi adaptor, and bought the SkySafari app, it would connect to my iPad, but the mount still would now respond.

I wand to keep the STARSense, and sell this scope with a good controller. I at a loss as to what to try next. Does none have any ideas. The STARSense and it’s controller work great.

Because Celestron mounts use those silly RJ9 telephone connector plugs in their HCs, make sure that the female side of the plug (the one on the mount itself) doesn't have any bent pins that would prevent contact with the mated pin in the male plug itself. This sounds like a connectivity issue.

That’s what I thought too, but the same problem exists with both the old motor board, and the new board. I have 3 controllers the original , the new one and the one that came with my STARSense. The other night I Found the original controller in a box, and just for kicks, I plugged it in, and I Can believe it worked for one night, the next day it was back to not working. The new controller won’t work, but the STARSense controller worked just fine.

Guess I will just have to use my STARSense controller, don’t know what else to try.

Just a random thought but are you plugging the starsense HC into the mount or the starsense?
From what I remember being told the two HC are not interchangeable between mount and starsense.

The STARSense controller plugs in to the mount through a aux adaptor, the STARSense plugs into the same aux plug adapter. Both plug-in to the controller input on the mount.

Which mount are you using, the ASGT or AVX?
I remember there being issues with the ASGT and starsense.

The only reference I have found for a C10 is a 10” newtonian.
Is this the telescope you are using?

This is my mount, and scope https://astromart.com/images/classif...5/432116-2.jpg
It’s a CG-5 Mount. The problem is not with the STARSense controller, it works fine plugged into the same port on the mount that the original controller plugs into. The original controller does not work, nether does the new controller I bought.

Your mount is the ASGT which is the goto version of a CG-5, the ASGT mount was known to sometimes have issues with the splitters.
Nexstarsite.com may have some information about this.
