Default looking around at C9 prices... but....

I have posted this on a mainly UK site too, seeing as they may be having a similar problem...... No reply as yet.

As per last post I'm looking to replace my 10" F4.7 Newtonian with a C9.25 for ease of use and a few other reasons.
I live in New Zealand and new scopes over here are prohibitively expensive, around twice the price that you would pay buying from a retailer in the USA and as such I started to look around for prices and shipping costs.

I contacted one retailer who said that they weren't allowed to sell telescopes to anyone outside the USA (really????) with no explanation as to why.
Another retailer said that even before they could give me a quote on a price and shipping cost I had to fill in some Homeland Security form first (...WHAT???? DHS????)
I'm still waiting to hear back from a few retailers to see if they want me to jump through any hoops before taking my money....

Anyone have any insight as to why Homeland Security need me to fill in personal details on some form they have to allow me to even get a purchasing price quote for a telescope..... just what do think an astronomical telescope actually is?

    Update:-
Just got this back as an Explanation from a retailer who I asked why it is a requirement?.... and it just raises more questions than it answers.....

........... The Department of Homeland Security here in the US has stated that any potential for overseas Optical Tube Transactions will require a completed BIS 711 form ..............

So not just buying one but actually """"Thinking"""""" of buying one i.e. "any POTENTIAL for"...
So I can't even get a price quote without filling this form in??? Why??? What's going on???

What could I possibly do with a C9 that needs the involvement of the DHS???

    Anyone????

    Thanks, and rather confused...

have you checked out bintel ,they ship to the nz ,the prices down this way are pretty expensive in general for most products but alot more specifically for Meade and celestron products probably due to no direct outlet, i rarely buy from overseas unless i need a hard to get custom product and the countries tax is outrageous ,we pay tax on our income then pay tax when we buy something then have to pay tax again for importing ...

And in NZ we have to pay tax on the item AND the shipping price, I have imported a few guitars from the US too for the same reason, way over priced in NZ and second hand stuff over here is a bit like Russian Roulette with a semi-auto as most Kiwi's (not all, but most) only sell something when there is a problem with it or it's about to fail, and they don't bother to tell you about it it's just your own look out and if you don't spot it before parting with the cash then you bought it, warts an' all.
I'm not a kiwi by the way, from the UK some 11 years ago.

    I'll check 'em out, thanks.

    Cheers

I believe First Light Optics in the UK deliver internationally. Worth checking out their prices with delivery to NZ to compare.
