Default Places to buy a telescope in Canada

    All,

I need advise and recommendation to buy a telescope. I will go preferrably with 114mm /127 mm or 130 mm EQ refelctor type telescope.

Where shall i buy the telescope from? Any feedback on proces, customer service, shipping, warranty etc. etc. will be highly apreciated.

    Thanks

    Anuj

    Hi Anuj welcome!,
there are a few good ones. I got my old one from Efstonscience. Very nice people there, and they even have outings every month.

    UPDATE

Just adding an update for Efston science.

I bought my first scope, a dob from there about 10 years ago. Recently visited Toronto and the site mentioned that they had a Meade binoculars set I had been looking for in stock.

It took me and my wife with our son about 1 hour to get there, and once there there was no one to help us, not only that but the staff were indifferent to us there and the Meade binoculars were not in stock at all. I asked about an order, and they said it "would take at least 1 month since they had to order an entire palate" for one model of binocular!

I found their service quite rude, and ridiculous. I will be ordering online from the USA from now on if in North America.

    cheers

I have had very good experiences dealing with Lire La Nature in Montreal. They sell online, good selection, good prices, and ship anywhere.

Canada-wide Astronomy Buy & Sell is a good source for used astronomical products in Canada. I have used it for most of my purchases and have come across great deals. They also have a bunch of Canadian dealer links on the homepage.

I would not recommend Khan Scope Centre in Toronto unless you actually visit the store and check over your purchase before paying.
Safely shipping telescopes across Ontario isn't one of their strong points, and hasn't been for years.

    Ray Khan is...an interesting character.

Yeah I never really liked dealing with Khan. Dave up at AstroMechanics in Barrie is a really nice guy and I highly recommend them. Also Perceptor is where I bought my first 2 telescopes from and I will always gladly do business with them as well.

Another option is KWTelescopes. They are located in Kitchener. I have ordered from efstonscience, Khan, and KWTelescopes.. no issues so far from any of them. Khan has a flat rate set for items (as most would), where KWTelescopes charges the daily $US conversion. Depends on the dollar strength which is cheaper at any given time. Lately, KW has been cheaper due to the relatively high CAD dollar.

I have dealt with Khan Scope and Canada Wide Astronomy Buy-Sell. Both have been positive experiences.
