    Default Nova East 2018

The biggest star party in Atlantic Canada will be held at Smiley's Provincial Park, NS, August 10-13, 2018. Although the program is still being developed, the basic info at NOVA EAST is updated for 2018.

One item I know will be on the program is me, doing a beginners' talk about how to set up your telescope. They are also going to have "telescope medics" coaching beginners one-on-one after dark on setting up their own telescopes.

    Hi Kathy:

I was at the star party last year, (my second), and was in the crowd for your beginner's talk on how to view through a telescope. As a beginner, I found that it was probably the most informative and worthwhile talk that I have ever attended. Well done! I look forward to sitting in on this years chat. My 10" Dob proved to be to cumbersome for me to move around (bad joints), so I recently downsized to a 6" Skywatcher Dobsonian. No bells, no whistles, but VERY easy for me to set up. Your advice on what gear a beginner should be looking at was spot on.

I find that the event is well-aligned for the beginner, and not overwhelming at all. I encourage anyone who has a budding interest in this hobby, to take advantage of this marvelous opportunity to 'get-your-feet-wet'. Speaking of wet feet...though the weather didn't completely co-operate last year, the scheduled talks and workshops proved to keep interest keen, and spirits high. Looking forward to this years meet.

    Cheers,
    Shawn Ross

Thanks for the kind words, Shawn. It is always nice to get feedback, especially when it is positive! Looking forward to seeing you in August.

This weekend! If you haven't booked your attendance yet, you can probably still register at the site.

As an added bonus, the forecast is for clear days and clear nights all weekend. Don't anyone buy anything!!!
