Thank you for the warm welcome and great advice.

I just installed Stellarium and played with it for an hour. I was able to travel back in time 5 months, to the place were I went on vacation and found Milky Way exactly on the spot where I admired it. Amazing.

    Thank you!

Welcome speo. I also live in Mississauga, so I know the challenges you will face with your new scopes. Focus on the brighter objects in the sky like the moon and planets, anything else gets washed out by the light pollution. I would investigate how easy it is to pack up your scopes and travel to some truly darker skies. Even an hour north will open up more objcts for viewing, perhaps in the Forks of the Credit area.

Plan a summer trip up to the Northern Bruce Peninsula to Lion's Head (north of Wiarton) if you can, between July 1 and Labour Day, as we host Bayside Astronomy where a group of 12 or so volunteers share their telescopes. You are wrlecome to bring yours and join us. You can find us on Facebook.

Clear skies and enjoy the new scopes.

Hi Speo and welcome. Stellarium is a great piece of software. The dob is going to be a great visual scope to learn the sky with. Lets hope we get some clear skies sometime soon!!

Packing up my telescope and driving North for a couple of hours is OK for me. I actually went to the Forks of the Credit few weeks ago to get familiar with the place and I will go again there with the scope once the weather gets warmer.

I will definitely visit you guys on the Northern Bruce Peninsula.

Hello and Welcome. I am from Oakville ( your neighbour lol ).

I usually drive somewhere darker on the weekends, e.g to a conservation area and to milton or to the forks on weekdays. Let me know if you wan to join me sometime. Possibly next observing will be this coming Saturday if its clear.

I use stellarium as well. I use a TELRAD finder and because stellarium has TELRAD finder plugin, it makes locating object really easy and relatively fast
