1. example of the digital world encroaching on real life, and other news

    while watching GMA (Good Morning America) on CBS (TV channel, for those outside USA), i witnessed one of the people doing an emoji, with her hands, on TV, and proclaiming "I heart you" as a reply to another persons comment.

    I have no problem with using an emoji in a digital setting, as it is hard to pass emotion via black and white text. but when using it is real life, i view it as lazy. perhaps i am wrong, but what is real life coming to?

    I have a very genuine eagerness to get out and see the night sky, but the cold is a bit of an issue. it is about -23C here, with wind. not really the kind of weather to inspire me to go outside.
    Anybody have a spare house in a warm climate?

    i entered the hobby thinking that in the winter, i would have dark sky at an earlier time. i forgot, living in Maine USA, about the bitter cold.

  3. Meade autostar #497 arrived today

    i checked it out, plugged it in, turned on my scope, and proceeded to setup the new controller. it didn't have a ETX80 option, so i set it to the ETX70, in the hopes that it will work. i got through to the alignment, and poof, the battery died as soon as the motors moved a bit. so, i checked for more batteries, and found we had none left. figures.
    oh well, i have a cloudy view anyway, for a few days (freezing rain right now).

    didn't know i had a blog, and i am not sure what i will use it for, yet. or even if anybody will bother to read it.
    since joining this forum, i think i have learned a lot, yet no where near enough. previous to joining, i would not dare take my DSLR camera out of full auto mode, thinking i would screw something up. but when forced into settings i was not familiar with, i did a little research, and found they were not as complicated as i thought.
    something else i have noticed, though ...
