My Arp Peculiar Galaxy Observing Project

Record of my pursuit of the ARP galaxies.

  1. Observing the Arp Catalog of Peculiar Galaxies - 01 June 2014 Session

    Scope: 17.5 inch, f/4.5 dob

    Eyepieces: ES 82° 24mm (83x), 18mm (110x), 14mm (142x), 11mm (181x),
    8.8mm (226x)

    Transparency: Conditions were good, with Melotte 111 easily seen naked eye and a few stars resolved. Later, the Milky Way was easily seen once it rose to about 30° elevation, with some structure evident, though not extensively. The sky glow was typical for my Bortle 5 backyard.

    Scope: 10 inch, f/4.9 dob
    Eyepieces: ES 82° 18mm (69x), 14mm (89x), 11mm (114x),
    8.8mm (142x)
    Transparency: Conditions were sub-par for the most part, with noticeable softness, though conditions did improve slightly after about 0100 local time. Melotte 111 was barely perceptible to the unaided eye. Sky glow in my Bortle 5 was very evident initially, but did lessen as time passed.
