  1. Not Enough Time

    One of the most frustrating aspects of this hobby for me is centered around "time". I just don't have enough of it available to really enjoy the incredible experience I get from astronomy. Of course when life does present a "free" moment, the clouds are looming overhead!

    The World Wide Web has certainly changed the world today from what it was like when I was a child. I can only imagine (or maybe I cannot) what the next 20-30 years will bring us. Certain technologies have hit invisible walls and will not change much in time and I believe Astronomy is one of those. Yes there will be tweaks and improvements, but by and large, in 30 years, an astronomer will still be using a set of lens to view the stars.   3. Helpful Things To Have In This Hobby

    From time to time I will post links to things that I have found almost indispensable in this hobby. This will be the first of such posts.

    As you collect scopes, mounts and accessories, you will find out rather quickly that there is no standardization between manufacturers when it comes to the screws and bolts that hold our precious kits together. As a matter of fact, there sometimes is no standardization even within the same manufacturer.

  4. Learning From Mistakes

    From time to time there are posts written which reference the mistakes fellow astronomers on this site have made. These can be centered on setup, equipment purchases, identifying objects in the sky, software operation or any one of a host of other things. We all have made mistakes in life and we all will continue to make mistakes as time goes by. What is important is that we learn from those mistakes.

    For me, my most recent astronomy hobby mistake (of many) was in the design of my observatory.
