i was thinking

Pentax ucf zoom II 8-16x21

If you can fit it in your luggage, go for something like 10X50. The binos you mention are all 21mm objective lenses, which is pretty small for astronomy. 7X50 or 10X50 is preferable because you gather a lot more light and consequently get much better views of the sky.
Any magnification above 10, though, is going to give you more shaking when you look at the sky w/o a tripod.
If $$$ really is no object, look into image-stabilized binoculars. They cost a lot more, but looking through them is a miraculous experience. The image is steady and crystal clear.
Have fun in Australia, and say "Hi" to Vinnie for us.
