Default The Oberwerk 11X70 LW has arrived

I purchased the Oberwerk 11 X 70 LW binoculars, used, last week. They arrived Friday. I took them out to my friend Bruce's house to check out the bird. I was quite surprised at how well they worked. The detail was amazing.
I broke them out Saturday night for the short period of clear skies over house. The Beehive Cluster popped out quite nice. Orion was too low to see, so I swung over to the Leo Triplets. Wouldn't ya know it, the moon came over the horizon. I'm not so sure that I could see the galaxies with light pollution from town anyways.
Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the purchase. They are light weight enough for me to step out the back door and check out the sky. I can easily hand hold them. Of course resting my elbows on a perch improved the view immensely. I think they will be an excellent accessory for backpacking this Summer.

I've been lusting after a pair of those. I do have a pair of Skymaster 15x70s, but I really want to try a pair of Obies. (BTW, if you got bought them on CN classifieds, you beat me to the punch by a day or so. Nice catch!)

Congrats on the new binos Caddman! I managed to catch a few galaxies from my light polluted patio with 15 x 70 binos, but you definitely want to stabilize them with tripod or monopod.

I also own those binos. They are by far my favorite pair of binos. They outperformed all my other pairs.

    Congrats,

I'm definitely a fan. They are light enough to just pick up and head out the back door one a moments notice. However, aside from having to set up the parallel mount, I still think the 25X100s are my favorite.

    Hi Caddman,

Well, color me stupid. I thought you were rounding 10.5 up to 11. As it turns out I have the Oberwerk Ultra series 10.5X70 binos. What tipped me off that maybe we have different binos is that you kept saying how light weight they are. At first I thought maybe he's really strong, but even a really strong person would probably not claim the Ultra 10.5X70s were light weight.

Anyway, I'm glad those binos are performing well for you.

My 25X100s would be right at the top of my list too if my parallelogram mount weren't broken which essentially renders them useless.

    Cheers,
    JT

    Hello Jaetea.
There is a considerable difference between my 3 lbs and your 5.5 lbs binos. I still like to support myself against the fence post or out building when I don't use a tripod or I'm not sitting in a chair.
BTW, I'm also looking at the 20X80 deluxe III. I like the idea of a triplet objective in a binocular. I'm not sure if it will be that big of an advantage. But I would like to see. It'll probably be mid or late Summer before I can purchase those.
