Using binoculars of any significant aperture or weight requires, or is at least much easier using something in the form of a parallelogram mount. They are also easier to use of adapted with a 45-degree ocular assembly. Here is an example, in the form of my BT-100's, adapted Celestron Heavy-Duty field tripod, and my hand-made UA-replica parallelogram mount:
CGEM 800 HD, NexGuide, Orion XT8 Limited Edition, Oberwerk BT-100, Canon 20D/20Da/T3i/60D/5D Mk III, various eyepieces, adapters, geegaws, widgets, and tiddlybits

Yeah, I learned my lesson buying optics that are so cumbersome to me that even though they were great, I just didn't want to lug them outside. I have a small Zeiss 65mm spotting scope that I absolutely love for just popping out the door with and they will zoom from 15 to 45x.

Sometimes I wonder if there isn't a support right on the chair for binos in the 5Kg range. P mounts should work fine but they look "not casual" at best, for setup.
Exactly. I own a pair of Oberwerk's 25x100 and using a tripod with a central column solves part of the issue (the tripod is actually an old Tiffen video tripod). Of course, there's equipment for different things and a parallelogram could be better, but I enjoy the stability that comes from the weight always centered on the tripod legs.
BTW just a few days ago I got the best (probably the first) view of NGC6231 in scorpious. I'm at 20N so it was high and clear , just past the meridian. The view was outstanding....
Hi guy,s just stumbled on this one ,
really enjoyed reading all the different post , so would like to show what I did with my 25x100 revelation bino after hitting the tiring handling snag that comes with big binos or any binos (I have all sizes) I made my own mirror mount out of plywood and ordered a first surface mirror to use with 25x100s total cost--- mirror was £75 and the rest £6
was very easy to make and far superior than my pole mount I made for night viewing as you can sit down with the thing all night if you want.

this mirror mount can be placed on a pole or table at any height to suit
am planning on making a simple rotating table to sit at in comfort --all night

Just a follow up from the last time I posted. I bought a pair of Zhumell 20x80s and they are wonderful. At only $89 shipping included on special, its got to be one of the best bang for your buck product. I've had a lot of fun with them the last few weeks, breaking them out often and proving the easier it is to break them out the more you view. The aperture is just right, I'm not yearning for more and more importantly I can handle the weight for shorter periods, longer if I assume the prone position on a chase lounge. Took me awhile to figure out the nuances between the dioptic and EP focuser, I wish it had individual EP focusers but I can't complain, the binoculars perform very well and appear to be well built and easy to hold on to.
