Very good thread. Anyone know any articles about aspherical lens fabrication techniques? If you want the best field of view without too much distortion, you need an aspherical eyepiece, since the eyepiece lens has the lowest f#. I want a 90 degree AFOV.

    So BOYE8117,

Did you ever build that refractor?
Sorry I'm so late to this thread. Seems we were of a similar mind about the same time period.
I've done two OTA's based on 127mm Surplus Shed Objectives.
The first was an F5 which I liked very much. A year later, I made an F9.4 which I have just started using in ernest. I designed it to be very configurable with a retractible draw tube and nice focuser. It has far exceeded my expectations and surprised me with very good views and images for an achromat. I have to look for any CA in photographs. My Baader Contrast Booster and Semi Apo filters have stayed in their cases.

I made sure that any scope I built could fit sideways into my car and the 1200mm has a long draw tube so it can collapse down to 33" max with a diagonal attached.
