    Default "Habitable Zones" ubiquitous across Cosmos



    RUSHED ROUGH DRAFT:


    Stellar Habitable Zones, for (potentially habitable) planets orbiting stars, and, Galactic Habitable Zones, for (potentially habitable) star systems orbiting in the disks of spiral galaxies, are well-known.

    Now, according to the Discovery Channel documentary How the Universe Works -- Solar Systems (TV), our Solar System is remarkably regular compared to other planetary systems. For example, our Sun is a stable sort of star, which has allowed life to evolve unmolested (from flares ?). And, Jupiter is estimated to reduce the rate of impacts upon this planet by a factor of 1000.

    QUESTION: Why would our star system be so remarkably regular, in complete contrast to many others ?

    SUGGESTION: Our star system formed from an "unmolested" Proto-Stellar Cloud fragment, which was able to gravitationally collapse in a completely "Keplerian", and "regular", way, "on its own". This, then, is reflected in the resulting regularity of our Planetary System.

    And, in turn, this seemingly suggests, that our star system formed from a sufficiently "isolated" clump of material, not "too close" to the core of the Star Cluster in which it formed. Yet, our Sun must have formed "close enough" to the core of said Star Cluster, and specifically to a Supernova from a high mass central star, to account for the copious quantities of metals seen in our star system, which helped form the rocky planets, like our Earth which we live upon. Moreover, according to said cited DC documentary, a Supernova shockwave may have triggered the gravitational collapse of the Proto-Solar Cloud in the first place.

    This "give and take", of "not too close", and "not too far away", sounds suspiciously like the "Goldilocks Definition" of HZs. Perhaps there is some sort of "(Open) Star Cluster Habitable Zone", along the lines of:
    • CORE: No Planetary Systems (complete disruption) [closely packed high-mass, short-lifetime stars, strip themselves of their potential planetary disks]
    • MIDDLE "MANTLE": Chaotic Planetary Systems (partial disruption) [some strong interactions during formation dramatically disrupt planetary system]
    • RIM "CRUST": Stable Planetary Systems (no disruption, Titus-Bode-like Laws for planet periods) [few if any interactions during formation "leave proto-Planetary System alone" to self-assemble in regular & orderly way]

    This author predicts, that if/when the first "regular" Extra-Solar Planetary System is observed, it will "be obvious", from its flagrant regularity, and the conspicuous presence of "Titus-Bode-like Laws" describing the periods of its planets' strongly circular (prograde) orbits. Such would indicate, that, like our own Solar System, said Extra-Solar Star System was a little like the "Shire" in LotR, never having been "molested" by a "Mordor" who mucked up, stirred up, & disrupted the proto-Planetary Disk of said star (slinging surviving planets onto highly eccentric and/or inclined orbits).

    Could it be that our solar system is just old enough for the planets to settle into a gravitational resonance to naturally settle into the present orbits for at least long enough for us to evolve to this point.
