Had it been due to aliens it would have absorbed or emitted energy, as it would be trying to analyse data from our solar system and transmit it back.

It also wouldn't be tumbling chaotically, which makes it inefficient.

Highly unlikely, but some sort of 'alien derelict' (badly damaged and not functioning correctly) didn't seem too far out of bounds, especially if it took a few thousand years to get here. Again, highly unlikely.

Thank you n_F_A, I feel better. When I saw the "news" that it was possibly an alien solar sail craft, I cringed

I am no scientist, however, I do remember reading about the effect of uneven heating on the Pioneers; a new and unforeseen event then. And I have also read about the effects of radiation pressure on various solar system objects and spacecraft. At least these events have been proven time and again. I'll go with either of those, even the outgassing, though there is so far no evidence.

And the article goes on to mention Tabby's star, FRB's; the author is so right: aliens sell! Heck, I quite enjoyed the X-Files....

I wonder what will be next....

Have a good night and thanks again,

Agreed, TFK! I think it does science a disservice when it mixes in fantasy entertainment. We have enough problems with fakery and propaganda..... It's disappointing when scientists engage in such corrupt practices. Heck it's disappointing in regular news. I get depressed when scientists do it.

Good thing it wasn't a "planet killer" like the one that killed Matt Decker.

Of course I knew also that Oumuamua was not artificial. The only news here is the idiocy out of Harvard.
