Hi, n-FA. Did this article really say much important? I liked it that two different teams had similar results, but does it have a significance?

Yes it does. Given the fact that there are fast and slow rotating elliptical galaxies some folks had thought that there might be two different formation mechanisms to account for that difference. The two studies agree that that is not the case. The data don't justify two different formation scenarios. One path works fine for both fast and slow rotators.

I admit it isn't a flashy kind of significance. But it is a bit of light shed in our understanding: don't bother thinking about two mechanisms, one will do fine.
