    Default Amateur research topics???

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to reach out for some input on possible astrophysics research topics.

I am an avid amateur astronomer, and also enjoy teaching myself astrophysics. I am about halfway a third of the way through "an instruction to modern astrophysics" and am looking for a way to couple these concepts with some of my own visual astronomy.

Also, I have developed a strong interest in spectroscopy lately. I have been using the star analyzer 100 and rspec software and am amazed at the information you can extract from this setup. Ideally, I like to combine all these areas into a fun research project.

So, to sum up an unorganized question- I am looking for ideas on an amateur research project involving astrophysics (very interested in stellar atmospheres), some limited observation, and basically just something to have fun with and tie all of this stuff together!!

Please let me know if you have any questions! Any and all help is very much appreciated!

Agreed. Also look for discussion groups on amateur spectroscopy. They have good treatments of technical details and subjects to pursue that seem useful and informed to me.

In addition here are some links of resources on spectroscopy for amateurs including DIY projects that are buildable at home.
