    Interesting article The solar system had a fifth gas giant that crashed into Neptune | Daily Mail Online But the real reason I posted it was to ask, what happens when two gas giants collide? What's the collision like?

    I thought the Nice Model handled things OK. I see this as an alternative. It's unclear which gives better agreement with observation though. One thought.... since it is Uranus that is lying on its side.... why Neptune.

    Depends on what you mean by collision. In dynamics a collision can mean any close encounter that causes orbits to be significantly altered. That implies that there are non destructive collisions. Physical contact collisions would be very hot (lots of energy available) and messy.
