If a Black Hole was say 100 solar masses and it eats a star that is 10 solar masses, does the Black Hole then become 110 solar masses?

Some energy can be lost because of, for example, gravitation wave radiation. So, a total mass can be less the simple arithmetic answer.

In a real case the star would be shredded during capture and orbit decay. Much of it would be kicked out away from the bh.
