    Question Black holes collision ?

Recently I've been reading about the Arp catalogue ,and One of the main subjects of the catalogue is the colliding galaxies.
Arp catalogue itself contained some interacting galaxies (colliding galaxies) and active galaxies (with SMBH in nuclei),
    but How about this:

let's say,if there's really a black holes on the nuclei of a galaxy, What will happen if the two galaxy collides and merged?
the gravity should attract the nucleus together (and altering the shapes by torning and merged them) , but what will happen to the centre nucleus of the galaxies?
Will they merged? and since there's a black holes in them, what will happen if they're actually attract each other?

Not only black holes, but since massive galaxies have a supermassive black hole at it's centre, well, who knows?

If two galaxies collide, the super massive black holes in their centers would not necessarily merge (I suppose that would depend upon the nature of the collision). However, if the two black holes did collide, the end result would be a more massive black hole with a larger event horizon.

I think gremmy was right, that they will not necessarily merge - and that it depends on the collision. I can easily imagine a scenario where the two SMBHs end up orbiting one another. In fact, I would think that this is the more likely scenario.

Super massive black hole mergers should create one of the biggest gravitation waves in Universe. But we are still not able to detect such gravitation waves. May be amplitudes for such processes not so big, may be estimation how often it happen is not correct. Very soon new telescope with better accuracy will start to work. In this case we can better estimate probability of such processes.

hi daniel they will orbit 1 another but in time they will merge. Exp m87.& going back to a point you made in a post.theory for amateurs like us is when we have the information available to us to draw our own conclusion.so its not something that comes off the top of our head.its something that we think long & hard about,so that's why i say anyone can have there own theory.
