Default The Gauntlet Has Been Thrown

I have something of a challenge. I uploaded a fits file to a free uploading service. It is M51 in it's original state after stacking, no post processing has been done. This image has been the subject of another thread, but I thought it would be interesting to see what the final result would be from those of you who use different tools to post process. My final verson, and the touchups that Gus did is available here:

Processing Astrophotography Pictures with Background Light Pollution

If any of you are interested, and can tolerate a 10 minute download (free file services provide very little bandwidth) I would like to see what can be done from the fits file with all data intact.

This image was taken in a very light polluted area (red to red/white). Here is the download link:

Download test51.fit for free on uploading.com

I also think it would benefit many of us if others did the same thing in the future. Upload your fits/raw image and let people take a crack at it. It serves as something of a tutorial.

You can upload it here: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service or RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting
It's way faster...I'm still waiting for the download site to open...

I'm in the process of uploading the file to Megaupload, as suggested. To open a FIT file in PS, you will need FITS Liberator, which can be found at :

New Version of Photoshop FITS Liberator 2.2 Released Artsnova Digital Art and Space

    or

    The ESA/ESO/NASA Photoshop FITS Liberator v.2.3 spacetelescope.org

I will edit my original post to reflect the Megaupload site. Seems about the same speed, however.

I am curious. What are your images saved as? Mine are always CR2 which in turn converts to FITS.

Yes I those same links on google, thanks anyway.
I can't get any color out of that though, any guide for the plugin?

Thanks for the megaupload link, it's going 10x faster now, at least for me. 700kb/s instead of 60kb/s

This is what I managed to do, but I never worked with this before...I don't know how to get colors...

You have to install it, and make sure you only open photoshop after installation.
then click the file and click "open with", choose photoshop.

    Hi guys:

It doesn't necessarily have to be my image. My thinking is that it would be a good learning process to have access to images such as this taken by forum members. The image should be aligned and stacked, but unprocssed in terms of using PS or Gimp and the like.

I would think it would be a great way for those of us who are still learning to try to match the original posters image and even try to enhance it. Using the raw data, such as a FITS file keeps the original data there.

Declan, that thing you clicked is just credits, the button is called "about plugins" right?
did you right click the file (the image you downloaded here, not the plug-in) directly and clicked open with photoshop? if yes and it didn't work, try this:
in photoshop, click the button "edit" (top left), then "preferences" (very bottom), then "Plug-ins & Scratch Discs". it will open a window. Then on the window, check the box, and choose the path you installed the plugin. I think it's C:\programs files\photoshop FITS liberator.

Then just click OK, close PS, open PS again, click "file" > "open" and choose the .FIT image you downloaded.

    Hope this helps.
