Default Taking longer exposures (30+ seconds)

I have just got my AVX mount and am getting a ED80 Apo triplet within the next few days. I tested the AVX out the other night and had no problem getting 30 second subs on my Nikon D7000. Now I want to start taking even longer subs, but I am stuck at how to actually do that. What programs will allow this? Are any of the programs free? What additional cables will I need to get? I have digicam control, but it doesn't allow bulb mode =/

Backyard Nikon, has a 30 day free trial.

Also might consider Sequence Generator Pro.

I don't know that particular camera, does it have a usb port on it?

Another consideration possibly a remote release.

Number one, get a good polar alignment. This can be done without a computer. Number two, get an autoguider. This requires a computer but it can be as small as a Raspberry Pi.

I want to work on getting 30+" subs unguided before I start spending money on autoguiders

It has a USB port on it. And with the external shutter control, if I wanted 45 second subs, would I have to sit there with a timer and time each image?

If you're going without computer control, get an intervalometer.
