Thank you everyone for your overwhelming advice! I think I will try them all (at least the free ones), and let you know how it turned out.

For those of you that use Lightroom, would you be able to post, or refer me to a standard workflow to process an image? I find it not very user-friendly and I just play with all the buttons in no particular order...

Once again, thanks to all of you. What a great forum this is.

HI, I used Nebulosity, not free but relatively cheap and I still use it for acquisition. I now do all my processing in PixInsight!!! It is so powerful and astrophotography oriented, well basically thats what it was designed for. I have used it on Planetary and Deep Sky objects with great success, even multi panel mosaics are fairly easy. Check out the Pixinsight forum and see what result people are getting, in fact do that for any program you are considering. Peoples processing skills vary greatly so just because one persons picture processed by one program isnt too good or is stunning doesnt mean its a great program or not.
Just take your time and then buy PixInsight!!

I agree with Paul. If I knew I was into AP and looking to continue to improve AP processing skills hands down Pixinsight is the best at it, and my only recommendation. I have used Photoshop for years, but now moving up to PI for all post process work. I still use Nebulosity myself to capture data, great low cost software which affords capture control along with post processing features.

Like any software there is a learning curve, but if one uses the many online resources and forum one can learn PI fairly quickly.

Jeff, I see that you are using an UltraWedge with your LX200. Would you recommend it?

PixInsight is the best AP processing suite bar none. Also, unlike some tools I could mention you don't have to pay for upgrades, annual licences, multi machine licenses or other stupid marketing self-inflicted injuries.

I grabbed the UltraWedge at a great price back when the economy tanked in 2008. I know some of the Meade Wedges get some negative feedback, but the Ultra Wedge was the latest new improved version, I would highly recommend it. Very stable, easy to adjust. Meade made many improvements on this wedge. My only recommendation if one owns one is to invest in long T handle allen wrenches, it makes it easier working with a few of the allen screws on the mount, short L shaped wrenches are pain, but manageable.

I was not able to download CS2 from this site. I found it elsewhere though, see my next thread.
