    No this is incorrect. The movie crop mode of the 550d, 60d and 60Da ONLY are not compressed, they Are true 1:1 representation just like LiveView 5x almost is on most (not all) cameras. MOV is simply a wrapper, the codec used to store the data inside the wrapper determines the compression. In the case of 640x480 60fps movie crop mode on the above cameras ONLY there is no data compression (unlike every other mode on every other camera which use the H.264 codec to give a very high quality but compressed image stream).

    Jerry Lodriguss has researched this extensively for his latest book.

    Thanks for that link Phil. Any chance of creating a short sticky tutorial on imagemagick for installation and conversion of the master tiff files, please. It's a shame to be stuck using the 8 bit saved TIFF file from DSS.
