    Default What is DSS doing?!

Look at the attached image. It looks like it's squishing the photo. The reason I say squishing this because the vignetting is an oval and not a circle. What's happening?

Details? How many images, exposure, length, all imaged together, one evening? What type of camera? Raw or Jpg's...? Darks? Bias? Flats?

In DSS...did you select mosaic? Cause thats what it looks like it's trying to do?

The more info you give, the better the chance someone will arrive at a answer for your question.

    Cheers

Sorry, exposures are 15 seconds at ISO1600. I gave it 49 images taken over two nights, but DSS only stacked 38. No darks bias or flats.

But I'm not sure how much this matters, because I tried another target (M36) with the same result. That one had 15 images with 15 seconds exposures also at ISO1600. This one was done on one night, so there was barely any movement between exposures. For this one I did use darks bias and flats.

Camera is Nikon D7000, all raw images (dng). In DSS mosaic is turned on. This used to work, and as far as I know no settings have changed.

    Hiya,

DSS only stacked 38..probably due to your settings in DSS, maybe you only have stack the best 75 or 80%..? DSS stacks in accordance with the star score of each image, higher score = rounder/brighter stars.

Unless you are trying to recreate a large portion of the imaged sky, don't use Mosaic, I would set it to Standard.

As far as images taken over a few nights with no flats/biases/etc. That should not be a big deal. You can 'batch stack' if you use file groups..

I have files of the same object taken in multiple imaging sessions. How do I tell DSS to associate correctly the dark with the light frames of the same night for each night?
The answer to this question is to use File Groups.
Here is the link to file groups: File Groups

Have a look at your settings and see what you can tidy up, especially the Standard vs Mosaic setting.

    Keep us updated.....Cheers

Still no luck, with standard instead of Mosaic the smaller black area at the top and sides aren't there (which is expected) but there's still a big black area in the bottom. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but no luck. It seems to remember all my settings.

I also told it to use 100% of the images, so clearly some of them are just not good enough to use.
