    Default IC2574 "Coddington's Nebula"

Here is an image of IC 2574, Coddington's Nebula". IC 2574 is a nearby dwarf galaxy and is classified SAB(s)m. It is a member of the M81 galaxy group and is at a distance of about 11 million light years. Also in this image is the Abell Galaxy Cluster ACO1005. Unfortunately the distance and dimness of the member galaxies means very few show up in this image. There are several more noticeable background galaxies in this field but are apparently lightly studied. None of these have distance estimates; some are only in UVSource or IRSource catalogs. These objects are identified in the annotated image.

Incidentally, I am now using PixInsight to do a partial annotation. I am still completing the annotation in Photoshop. I hope to be able to eventually do all of the annotations in PixInsight after I insert some custom catalogs. I would also need to figure out how to render ellipses in PixInsight as well.

Image and details can be accessed from the link below. For convenience, I also provide a link below to the annotated image. But the annotated image can also be accessed from the main image page.

    Hello Jim,

this is an amazing capture of this faint galaxy, close to the M81/M82.
Visually, the Coddington's Nebula galaxy, is not always easy to see through the even big binoculars.
    Thank you for sharing,
