    Default M88 and M90

The final two galaxies imaged last week with the Bigdog 16, M88 and M90, both large spirals of the Virgo cluster. The high, gusty winds that plagued my M109 image had started to drop below 10 mph and tracking was better. But, the moon came up during the M90 image and started to spread its light pollution as well as the galaxy was sinking in the west at 2 am. Consequently I only got 25 minutes of luminosity vice my standard 45 minutes.

Data; Meade 16 LX200 at f6.2 with Starizona reducer, Atik460ex mono camera 9/5min lum for M88, 5/5min for M90, 2/5min RGB for both all 2x2 binned for 0.7"/pixel resolution. OAG with QHY5L-II mono at 4 sec rate. Captured and stacked in Nebulosity, finished in PS CS-5. Composite and text with Irfanview and 66% full size for posting.

    Clear skies,
    Steve

Lovely capture of the two galaxies. Love the detail in the images -- and the color more.

    HI Steve,

Yup, are a little soft for many, but that is the way I process an image. Just personal preference. My likes are soft edge stars with color, not all jammed to clipping and all white with a hard edge. Also I like galaxies that fade into the background, like the eyepiece view. There really is no edge of a galaxy anyway, unlike that old Star Trek episode, oops, dated myself.

    Thanks,
    Steve

I get it - In that case, nice job.

I remember the old Star Trek episodes the first time around. We must be close to the same generation.
