    Default M81 Galaxy RGB

I got a 3" Planostar 1.0x field flattener for my Altair Astro 115mm triplet at Christmas and have finally been able to produce an image with it.
Unfortunately my autofocuser controller died on me as I was setting up the new flattener and after an evening manually refocusing with a Bahtinov mask every hour (that gets old really fast!) I designed and 3D printed an adapter to fit the motor and controller from my 8"RC on the triplet.
Back in the game, and here we are with 3 nights on one of the best galaxies in the night sky at 805mm/f7.

    The full frame image.

    Wow! Superb cap.
Has anyone ever drawn attention to those linear stripes seen lower and left of the core?
Are they real or just illusory?

    Thanks Goldstar
Yes they're real, in the past I've read some speculation those unusual dust lanes could be due to gravitational interactions with M82, though I can't lay my hands on any supporting evidence for that at the moment.

Yes the IFN is just starting to show, probably would get more if I used any lum, but this is just RGB and a synthetic lum.

Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoy my images, I think over the years my MTBI (mean time between images) has steadily increased.
No connection I'm afraid, 'frant' is the name of an alien race in one of my favourite science fiction novels, props to anyone that can name the book
