Default My First DSO AP image M101 The Pinwheel Galaxy

Here is my first attempt of AP with my new starter setup. I finally got the Polar Alignment down using Sharp Pro 3.2 PA feature, then I ran into a telescope align learning issues. But After I finally figured it out I did my first test for about a half hour. I chose the M101 the Pinwheel galaxy because it was one of the first objects that my Telescope could see with clear viewing, it was getting late and colder so was kind of rushing.

Polar Aligned with my refractor and with the ZWO385mc in Sharpcap.
I used a Skywatcher Equinox APO 80ED with a ZWO385MC along with the AVX mount.
I captured 6 frames of about 2 Minutes each in Sharpcap . I am still learning so I did not have any Dark frames or anything just the RAW image files that I took and stacked them in Deepsky Stacker then Off to PScc.

    Click for Image

My next items that I will get are a new imaging camera and a guidescope and use my zwo385mc for guiding

Congratulations "Butcher" on your first AP image. M101 is clearly visible even with only 12 min total exposure. You picked a pretty tough target to start on.

Now you have started something that few of us can get away from. Astrophotography. You are now an astrophotographer! Well done.

Of course, now you also start on your career as an Astrophotography Image Processor.

Welcome to the "club". Nice to have you aboard.

Thanks all! I think I selected the pinwheel galaxy maybe I could of selected something different. I just googled the pinwheel galaxy and it said m101 so I put it in the title lol. I got to leanr my "M" and such. I have a few days of clouds/snow/rain so won't be able to go out until then.

Gona do some studying of AP and processing ect... while until the seeing conditions improve, and try to get me a used DSLR since by budget would be around $300

Edit: Just thinking, I kind of do remember seeing whirlpool galaxy so maybe I selected that one and maybe tried the Pinwheel.

M101 and M51 are both near the Big Dipper. This one is M51. Nice work for your first try!

Great M51 image! Two minute unguided exposures with an AVX is phenomenal. My stars started stretching at one minute unguided exposures. Sharpcap PA is really slick isn’t it?

Great job. Looking forward to more!

    Thanks,

Yeah Juno, I was surprised at how easy it was, the first night was a little learning curve though especially since it was my first night with a go to mount as well not being familiar with the Alt and Az knobs, but the second night I did it in about 20 minutes. I just used a compass and a digital altimeter that magnetically
attached to the weight and read right around 40 Deg. I then popped in my 15mm eyepiece and got it near the center, then put my ZWO in the scope. I had it down to 04 for the top and 03 for the bottom alt adjustment. I was nervous at first, because I read that the FOV should be at least 1 Degree. Mine had .83 FOV with the ZWO385MC and the 500mm scope and was able to see plenty of stars in the FOV.
