    Default IC1396 HOO so far

I collected this data from July thru October then I had a meltdown with my camera, the cooler shorted out. I just received it back from repair 2 weeks ago but the weather has been crappy so this is what I have so far of the Elephant trunk. Taken with the QHY163m on my Stellarvue SVR102t with 300 sec subs. Ha - 5:35 Oii - 5:50
I hope I can get some Sii before it disappears for the season. I'm still struggling with Pixinsight so don't look too closely.

Looking closer at this image I see an issue with the stars. I'm referring to the small bright stars with an offset red halo. Any opinions as to what could cause this?

I like the image Alex. With respect to the halos, if you used the straight Ha as the Luminance then you will have smaller stars than the "colour" portion of your image. This is common when using the HaRGB technique. Blending the Ha with the red channel and creating a synthetic lum is one way to deal with it. I could be out to lunch here but that is my gut feeling on it based on my experience. Hope that helps.

Thx Scott. Do you think that would still apply as I used HOO combine in Pixinsight, mapping the Ha to red, and Oiii to green and blue. I also notice that the red halo is offset from the white star center as if the collimation is off.

Sure, just use a blend of Ha and Oiii to create the synthetic Lum. I doubt it is collimation, this was with the 102 correct? Another thought is that the channels did not register properly when stacked. The more I think about it, that seems to be the more likely cause.
