That's a really good start for your first galaxy. NGC891 is not an easy target.
This is also really good for your second attempt altogether.

I’ve also discovered that you can see an anonymous galaxy in my photo. MAC 0222+4222 (LEDA 5061818 or 2MASX 02224191+4222419 or ZOAG G140.39-17.38). I don’t have access to an atlas to say what it’s magnitude is, but saw somewhere that it is a 18-19. Not sure if that’s accurate, but cool find!

Nice start! Don't worry about people laughing. No one here laughs, except for at the occasional comedy post. I never compare my shots with those of others. There is always someone out there who just wows me. Actually lots of people on here wow me. I always compare my shots with my previous shots. I like to experiment. I think things like, "Ok, that was 17 lights x 15 sec with no mask. I wonder what a mask would do for me? I wonder what 30 shots x 20 sec. would do? I wonder if I can get a good enough alignment for 20 sec. subs?" Those are the kinds of things I think when I am shooting. I just keep trying for a new personal best. The other photographers on here will cheer you on and give you lots of tips, as they have been doing. You are off to a good start.

An annotated version. CX0 J02224+4221 is a quasar @ 8bly, MAC 0222+4222 is the anonymous galaxy, and HMR2009 G21 is a possible globular according to NED:

Tony, that is a really cool image. Heck, at mag>10 and short exposures, you captured a good bit. I am learning too (probably will be for some time) and I know how thrilling it is to capture a target that you can't even see with your eyes. Great job and keep it up. I am sure that tons of lights will help out too. Little steps!

    Thanks,
    Jim

Nice! Bahtinov masks are good. A focal reducer will help improve signal to noise ratio on galaxies too.

This is VERY good for one of your first AP images ever. Very good indeed. The smallest stars look in focus for a C8 (I have one too) and the galaxy does as well, which is your biggest test. For 15 sec exposures you did great. The Bahtinov mask will help, but, your biggest gains will be in improving polar alignment. With drift alignment or even iterative alignment you should be able to get up to about 1-1/2 minutes without adding guiding to your rig. You can make this even faster by investing in a Pole Master; they are incredibly useful.

Check out the following thread to learn some great stuff about your mount, A Few Things You Should Know About Your Celestron AVX. Be careful not to post in it for it is an old thread.
