Default The Wall - widefield test passed

Having a quite long list of wider targets decided to explore the capabilities of the WO Megrez 80 FD and the focal reducer WO reducer x0.8 Type II which is designed mainly for the ZenithStar 66. Cygnus was well high in the sky and it was not hard to pickup a bright nice target for the HII filter . Focusing was easy with just one 50mm extender tube. The blind plate-solving in APT showed that f/6.9 is reduced to f/5.9 at 470mm focal length and the corners are quite good

After the initial tests ran one 10min exposure and was fascinated by the raw image so went for series of 15 minutes subs. The new plan was to take 10 subs and to try the OIII, but serious fog ended the session too soon...

I'm really happy with the result and am looking forward trying the faint targets in my list

    Total : 2h (8 x 900s), WO 80FD @ f/5.9, QHY22, Astrodon HII 3nm, APT, PHD, PI

    Clear skies,
    Ivo

Nice details and pretty sharp stars too. Well done.

I've recently purchased a WO STar 72 which, with my Canon T31 gives me a nice wide FOV. You mentioned that you have a list of wide FOV targets. Would you mind sharing that with me? I'm looking for targets for my new wide FOV.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Many thanks Steve!

The top of my list is the OU4 object in Cepheus and the MW2 Angel Nebula The first one is harder for DSLR because is mostly OIII and HII, the other is RGB and is possible, but quite faint. Most likely will give a try of the Orion targets during the winter and the Pleiades (for another year) There are a lot of dark nebulas in Cepheus which are also suitable for DSLR

Thanks Ivo. I looked but couldn't find reference to either the OU4 or MW2 objects. Are these part of some catalog(s)?

Thanks for the links Ivo. These are nice large targets, but, I'm afraid they are a too dim for my Canon T3i and local Light Pollution. I'd love to be able to capture targets like this. Maybe someday.
