    Default M8: The Lagoon Nebula

Finally was able to target M8 through the 8" reflector on June 10th. I definitely plan to revisit this nebula once I improve my wide field capabilities, but for now I am pleased with the result.

    Capture Specs:
    • Orion SkyView Pro 8" Reflector
    • Canon Rebel T5i
    • 16x30 sec exposure @ ISO 1600
    • 10x1 min darks subtraction
    • Stacked and processed via Nebulosity4

    Clear Skies!
    Chris

Congratulations on a fine short exposure image.

What I have found is that the more light frames you throw at short exposure AP(within limit) the better the image, I usually try for a minimum of 100X30 second exposures.
    Keep up the good work!

Nice work, one of my favorite objects.
Note: Your darks and lights should be of the same length of time to work best.

Thank you! Definitely the goal to up the total frames but by the time its dark enough here, I have a short window before this area of sky moves into some trees so it takes a few sessions to build up the frame count. I'll keep that 100x30 s target in mind and see how close I can get.

    Appreciate the advice!
    Chris

So when you make a Master Dark file, you basically need to have one for each exposure duration you plan to shoot? I made this Master Dark a few months ago and have been using that for all image sets since.

I'm going to finally create other calibration frame sets soon (flats, bias, etc) so I'll be sure to make some new Darks as well if that is the case.

    Thank you,
    Chris

Yes, darks should be of the same time as temperature as the lights.
