Default M20 reprocessed to bring out color

I am still learning DSO imaging, it is really tough. I have been having problems pulling color out of my images taken with OSC and DSLR cameras. Here is my next try. I have a ways to go

It's a good beginning. There's lot more blue in the nebula. Your lack of the blue range in your image may be due more to processing than original capture.

Hi Ben - Processing is definitely a "journey". What processing software are you using?

By the way, curiosity is killing me. What does SASS stand for?

SASS is for Single Action Shooting Society, cowboy shooting. We all have alias' mine is Ben Cartwright since I had 3 boys, my late son Sean, my youngest was Joe Cartwright in SASS and he was an lefty also.

I use Sharpcap to capture both Solar/Lunar and DSO
I find solar and lunar extremely easy! and easy to process for good results.
    for Solar/Lunar I use Sharpcap/AutoStakkert/Registax/Photoshop/Lightroom easy

    DSO
    Sharpcap
    Deep Sky Stacker
    Photoshop
    Lightroom

I have tried using Startools but haven't had good results yet.

So far my best results have been with Mono then colorized in PS. Trying to get good with OSC and then if I ever get a couple nights of clear skies to try my filter wheel

Thanks for the info "Ben". Sorry for your loss and for bringing up old memories.

There are a series of 6 YouTube videos on Astrophotography Processing (AP) using Photoshop by Doug German. Each video is only about 15-20 min long and they are designed for individuals just learning AP image processing. I used them when I was just starting and found them very easy to follow and very helpful. If you are interested the first one can be found at the link below.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ke3iO9d2Qw8

Searching for Doug German on YouTube will find the remaining 5 if you like the first one.

Doug has other YouTube tutorials including one on using DSS.

    Hope this helps.

A great start! DSO imaging (especially processing!) is definitely tricky. One thing about pulling color is dialing in tight focus. A Bhatinov mask and Bhatinov Grabber freeware make a huge difference. You will find that along with better detail, your images will have better color too when the focus is good. Keep up the great work!

I have never used sharpcap for DSO imaging. I would try it sometime but I am so spoiled with SGP

But it seems like your getting good results with it.

Good luck with your processing journeys, its a long road

I learned Sharpcap for Solar and Lunar and as a result are comfortable with it, that makes a difference.
