Default Help please - PixInsight will not integrate subs.

Last night I took 20 uasable subs of M51 at 2800mm using my ATIK 4120EX with LP filter.

I have used BLINK to check the 45 subs and threw away most due to cloud cover and daylight

I used BatchPreProcessing but it failed to process. I changed the settings in Image Registration/Registration Parameters to Nearest Neighbour and it managed to process four subs

Is it because of the focal length? M51 covers most the FOV and not many stars to use as reference.

Would I be better off using some other program such as DSS to integrate the subs?

Here is a processed image of M51 to show the FOV.

    Thanks in advance.

Very nice image! Well done! Sometimes I have this registration problem with DSS, even at 2% threshould. When I use planetary camera in Raw mode ( fits files), the images are too dark, and without bright stars in FOV these files are not registered. The FOV for Altair Gpcam at 750mm fl is the same as yours. So, I have to use rgb24 mode (tiff files) for targets as M51.

I use deep sky stacker,it's just simple to use and then process in pixinsight.i can stack in pixinsight, even pictures without stars, but it requires tuning the settings,i just find pixinsight tacks too long to setup.

you may want to play with some settings or pick another software, i'm not sure what blink is, do you have a link to it ?

Blink has been integrated into the PixInsight program. I think its freeware but not sure.
Blink is a program that allows one to quickly see the quality of all your subs. LOad your subs into its folder, runs the script and it shows each and every sub image in the folder. One can quickly weed out the bad subs and save the best.

Hi, have you tried using the Star Alignment tool on its own to register the subs, before stacking. I never use the batch process tool as I like to have a bit more control. Also for check subs quality I use CCD Inspector from CCDware. It saves the guess work on whats good or not, and gives you real time stats to assess your images. They also off a trial if you want to test it first.
I don't think the lack of stars is the issue. As said the Blink tool is a good way to check for bad images.

Hope ya figure it out and Clear Skies

    Two things...

First do not use batch pre processing to stack your images. Let it do everything else including registration but run integration seperatly so you can adjust things for a better fit.

Second look into the subframe selector script to help you analyze the 'quality' and useability of your subframes prior to processing.

When I first read this I was thinking of DynamicAlignment tool. For 20 subs!! Been there, done that, yawn, yawwwn. OMG tedious does not come into it lol.

But yes, I will try the StarAlignment. Thanks Paul.

When using the star alignment tool, be sure to go into the settings and max out the sensitivity and the outlier allowance.
