    MESSIER PHOTO AWARDS PROGRAM

    Award Categories:

    1.
    Messier 40 Photo Award Certificate and Icon (any 40 Messier Objects)
    2.
    Messier 80 Photo Award Certificate and Icon (any 80 Messier Objects)
    3.
    Messier Photo Grand Award Certificate and Icon (110 Messier Objects)

    Benefits:
    1) Eternal glory 2) Medal & Badge for achievement 3) Certificate for Award Recognition 4) Listing on Messier photos and objects database and thread
    Time Limit:
    none

    Acceptance criteria:

    1. The photo should be "quickly recognized" as the Messier object by an experienced observer or by comparison to a known photo of the object. No need to have magazine style photos made by $10000 gear - even those with very basic equipment can win this award! You can even use eyepiece projection, hand-held point and shoot, webcam - anything goes as long as we can recognize it!

    2. The person making the application must have made each photo unassisted.

    3. The telescope used for the photo must be owned by the person making the application; internet telescopes and rentals are not permitted.

    4. The photo must be uploaded/attached and hosted at astronomyforum.net

    5. External links to Flickr and other hosting sites are NOT allowed. See below instructions again for this.


    Application:

    1. Start a new thread on the Astrophotography Forum. That is here (link)!
    (For the sketch award - please submit to the Sketching Forum); Choose thread prefix: Messier 40 Photos or Messier 80 Photos

    2. Submit your photos as attachments or link to astronomyforum.net thumbnails to postings in your thread. You can put 10 attachments per posting. Include the Name of the Messier Object in the file name of each sketch to aid in its identification.

    3. Please note that the Wiki entries are voluntary. We would however encourage you to do so as this will keep a permanent record of your images in the wiki.

    Messier Photos is a new area that will be continuously updated by Messier photo submitters to receive the Messier Photo Award. Furthermore, if you submit at least 10 Messier submissions to the Astrophotography Forum and document them in the Wiki here:Messier Photos you will receive a Wiki Contributor Award.

    It's easy to contribute and you get listed in eternal glory simply follow these steps in this
    Format to submit, use this template and edit it in a notepad/wordpad (keep it handy posted in the forum or wiki for easy pasting):

    Paste the text into the telescope size and Messier object.
    Also paste the thread photo thumbnail as per instructions below.

    Please submit into the correct site by:
    1) Update your thread with the object photo submission and upload your photo (manage attachments, upload). Keep this window of the thread open as a tab or window
    2) Open a new tab by going to the Messier Photos page
    2) Go to the object page for the object you want to submit
    3) click on Edit for the right telescope size
    4) paste your wordpad/notepad edited submission edited from template above into the area, without pasting on top or deleting any previous information
    5) paste your thumbnail by selecting and copying the Attached Thumbnail of your messier photo from your main thread
    5) update your thread with the submission
