Default If you have no mount, it's hard to avoid trailing -- so go for it

Took this last night at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse in Bethel ME (about 2 hours north so I got back about 3am, so if this is full of typos you know why). My goal was to set the NCP on top of the lighthouse and I think I came close enough. BTW, my iPhone compass was all over the place, so Polaris it was, to set up the shot. Just ordered a good old Silva. The geography did not let me set up exactly where I wanted to, but this is not too bad. I shot 2hr20 of 30s subs at ISO800 f2.8 with the Rokinon 14:2.8 wide open. Some bugs, plane trails and a meteor snuck in but I decided to leave them -- call it artistic license or realism, you can call it lazy if you wish. I also did the shortened 1h10 and 35m versions with the same data. Stacking via StarStax and processing in PSCC and Lightroom. I did take a few MW shots, so y'all might have to put up with more MWs from me, we'll see. Had a chance encounter with a skunk. Cute little guy. Fortunately I heard him coming my way and was able to flick on a flashlight while he was far enough away to not feel threatened. As I have noticed before, they have a very silly walk, I think they need to register with the Ministry of Silly Walks.

This one is pretty artistic - nice job on getting it framed the way you wanted it - I like! (Even if it isn't a MW )

    Hi Richard,

That is a very impressive non-MW shot. Really though, I think it is a stunning circumpolar star trail image.

I always enjoyed the trailing star images like these. My brother use to take them in the country when I was a very young boy. In those days, they were single shots, on film. You did real good with this one.

Glad you didn't have a bad story to share with us in regards to skunks... I had a family of 8 in my yard this summer. $1000 later, they have been trapped and relocated.
