I think I like the new system. Instead of making a difficult choice of which one of your images to submit they will all be considered as long as you post them. I had often wondered how much work it was to organize the contest.

    Thank you

So if I understand correctly, you will be picking a monthly winner from April, May, and June of this year and then one of those will be the winner for the second quarter. Then the whole process repeats for Jul to Sep and so on.
This used to be a great place to hang out but now it is not safe here anymore.

    Question:
Can these images have been posted previously as long as they haven't been entered into a contest, or do they have to be new images?
    Thanks!

No prizes are awarded for monthly winners. However they will receive a mention in a Monthly Winner Announcement Thread.

Quarterly: For the quarterly competition, the Photo Competition Moderator Team will make a poll containing the three monthly winners in the quarter for each category.
The forum membership will then select via the posted poll for the quarterly winner for each category.

    One thread per submission.

The email is a nightmare!!!! It's taking one person hours to consolidate, size, ID and figure out the 'can I change the photo I submitted last week' stuff. And that doesn't even include the amount of time to create the polls for voting when we have 20 plus images submitted. Just too much chance for errors and omissions.

See the example posted above for a 'perfect' submission. However keep in mind we will be checking all images submitted per the official rules so double posting is not necessary. If you are just 'showing off' your work it will be considered a 'submission' AGAIN as long as it qualifies under the 'official rules'.

Anything that was posted in April will be considered for the April monthly contest. Anything submitted in May will be considered for the May contest. etc etc. Those winners will be posted in the quarterly polls for the prizes.

thanks for the reply ghswen, and sorry I missed the part u quoted from the original post.

also I just want to clarify, when u say "official rules" u mean everything stated in the top thread correct? I thought I remember seeing some rules I don't see in this new thread like- no text on the image- just wanting to make sure some of my prior images with text on them will be considered submissions. thanks!

The new rules posted at the top of this stickie are the official rules. I'm not going to say that they won't change since this is a new concept in how the contest is run, however notice will be given to try to keep things fair for all.

I'm not quite sure why you would want any text on a contest image, but as long as it doesn't give someone an unfair advantage, go for it.

    Gordon,

Just to clarify a couple things...

Is it necessary to specify in the title of our threads, or somewhere in the body of the text, that we want "this" particular image to be considered for the contest, or will you be making your selections based on ALL images attached to threads in the Astrophotography Forum?

Also, when you say "previously posted images are fine, as long as they were not contest winners." Won't that open the door for 100's of old images to be reposted again? The very thing the "zombie" rule (reviving old threads) was designed to eliminate?

I hope the new format makes things easier for all those involved with putting on these contests? After all, what's the point if you aren't having fun doing it?

    Good luck to all!

Based on what I'm reading, I think they will look at all images. At least I hope so otherwise it will create more work for them (i.e. having to read posts and stuff, and people changing their mind to include or not, and not being able to change the title, etc, etc.)

However, I think your second point should be clarified for sure. I have dozens of images that I took that I never entered in the contest. I'm sure many others are in the same situation. It would not make sense for use to re-post all of our images in order to be included in the contest. Or to start a new thread over and over again with a reprocessed image.

I'm not sure how this could be managed however. I think for the images to qualify, they should be current. Perhaps the only way would be to make it clear in the rules, and then rely on people's honesty? Not sure.

I like the way this thread is evolving... I have only a very few images I'd consider entering in any AP contest, so it would narrow down the field quite a bit.
I'm not sure on everyone else's take on that... Paul, you'd have to define "current" a bit more clearly, I think. 2015? Just the quarter the images are covering?

Watching this space closely for further details...
In the meantime, I'll post my submission and we'll take it from there!
