Default NGC281 The Pacman... Back to Kindergarten I go!

    Hey all,
Well, I thought I was progressing in the dark art of AP, until I decided to dip into Narrowband imaging... WOW!!!
Some of these people are insanely good at this!!!!
I suppose having 3nm Astrodon filters would help, but maybe not at this stage.... I'm still playing with blunt tipped crayons right now...

Anyway, here's my first crayon drawing using the HSO-AIP narrowband combination script in PI
I'm still not happy with the star colors, but I'll work on it when I get more time on the Ha and O-III
I still need, (want), an S-II filter.. and a filter wheel, *sigh*, and a pony.... and........

    This is:
    2.6 hrs of 1200 sec O-III
    2.5 hrs 900 sec Ha
    2hrs 300 sec RGB
Syn S-II and L in PI

Like I said... Blunt crayons on a wall right now, but ya gotta start somewhere, right?

    Thanks for looking!!!

Good start Jim...But not very encouraging words for somebody also considering taking the plunge into narrowband imaging lol.

...sounds like a common experience when going from DSLR imaging to narrowband though.

Good luck, and hopefully you'll be moving on to the 1st grade soon!

Nice start at this Jim! I processed my first narrowband images over the summer - I don't think I've ever done so many reprocesses on the same data set. And this was only with S2/Ha/O3 data (no RGB). I love the detail I can get shooting narrowband from my suburban skies, but processing definitely remains a work in progress for me as well.

I haven't tried the SHO-AIP script yet. If you feel like playing a bit more with the same data set, you might want to try a version using Ha as luminance (there is a good LightVortex tutorial), and/or doing a pure narrowband image with synthetic S2.

Again, very nice image, and I'm looking forward to seeing more!

I feel your pain in the reprocessing Dept. LOL
I did try the Ha as L. I also made a composite L from the Ha and O-III images, which seemed to work out a bit better...
The Syn S-II was also made from a different combo of these two elements....

Sooooo many choices and sliders, and potential combinations!!!!! Arg!!!
Good thing zeros and ones are just about free....

Keeps me off the streets at night, I guess...

    Thanks all!!!

Hi Jim. I think this is a pretty good Pacman Nebula image. Lots of vivid color and details in the delicate nebulosity. Thanks for sharing this capture with us Jim, and I wish that I knew how to use "crayons" like this.
