    Field rotation won't cause it to be out of focus, but because you aren't polar aligned the stars are moving and there can be a slight amount of blur, it will give the appearance of soft focus. I saw your latest post and it looks like you did improve the focus, so perhaps the 6 second shots are doing it for you and it really the focus originally.
